The worst part of testing the new "Delete everything associated with this account" script for the first time with prod data is that if it fucks up, there goes the prod data.
I tested it a whole bunch in staging and a dev environment though?

I also grew up without cable - but uh - OTA TV ;)
Shæ has seen Polkadot Shorts on youtube and therefore kinda knows TVO Kids. And knows Polkaroo from his later days after he learned to speak.
Do - Polkadot Door was a #TVOKids original for mostly toddlers and it had a budget of approximately "Anything you brought to work with you" and so had ~4 actors, probably 3.
And two were not in costumes all day, and one was. But uh... Polkaroo (the polka dotted green kangaroo that was the show's mascot) needed an actor. So literally the male host would dress in the costume, show up, do the scene with the female host, and then leave, then walk back on without costume and be like "Polkaroo was here?! I missed him again?!"
This weekend I invented a thing, that probably dozens of people have invented
Step 1) Make bread dough
Step 2) proof the dough
Step 3) take a slice of cheese and cut into 3 pieces
Step 4) wrap a little bit of dough around the cheese
Step 5) cook ~20 minutes on ~350F
Becky calls them Cheese Volcano rolls

Mastodon DMs are more secure than twitter DMs.
Also - having a direct message functionality is useful.
If you are so scared of your admin please contact me at silverwizard@convenient.email and I'll help you find an abandoned bomb shelter to live in surrounded by MREs and you can curl up in the fetal position and weep without needing to pollute conversations with people who know the words "threat model".
Sorry, I'm in a bad mood, and I've seen multiple people suggest removing mastodon's DM functionality *today*.
Friendica's DM functionality is, of course, perfect and has no problems
Accidentally tarpitted prof's office hours by asking a question about one of the assignment problems. Turns out the obvious approach gives a non-physical result and he can't figure out why.
This sort of thing just follows me around, I'm not trying to cause trouble, I swear.

Does not follow the laws of physics. In this case, the electric field has a nonzero curl even though there are no changing magnetic fields, which violates Maxwell's Equations.
(If any physics nerds want details, I can give a description of the problem and why the result is non-physical, but I'll hold off on that until somebody asks.)

Based on what the prof said today, it sounds like I accidentally tarpitted his whole day, not just office hours.
In summary: The answer key for the textbook he got it out of has the naive, non-physical solution. He and the TA got far enough to confidently say that the correct solution is absolutely not an undergrad E&M problem.
Thinking about my middle name, which I passed on to both my kids, since my partner passed on his last name... but it feels really perfect that I have this middle name which can be passed on, used as a backup name or primary or placeholder name if my kids ever decide they hate their (more gendered) first name. I love that it kind of works in all these ways (plus it can make your first name an adverb for better or worse)
My middle name is Leigh

Cw covid19, isolation and other associated costs
The isolation that comes with the pandemic at this point in time is unlike the times before it. I'm not enough to support my partner on my own and vice versa. We're both feeling dejected and trying our best but anyone who might have been safe before to let in our group no longer is, because they've all decided that covid might not be that bad
DHCPv6 does exist, and honestly, it is just that
There's actual differences but they are incredibly minor

Some posts recently made me realize not all who are new here know this.
It is important that you're on an instance where you feel you can trust your instance provider to make the right calls for you, especially around blocking other instances. If you don’t trust the admin of the instance you're on, then you should move somewhere else, be that to a smaller instance where you can more easily communicate with the admin or a larger instance where it's less personal and might feel better for whatever reason
As a reminder, you have to trust someone somewhere in the line for social media to work. So please don't come at me saying "trust is a valuable resource I'm keeping to myself". If you'd rather use Twitter, you're putting your trust in their admins all the same
I have been on XMPP continuously since 2004.

CW: male gaze
I was just thinking about how much I've struggled to find my personal style because my whole life I've been running away from the male gaze. Not because anything happened, but being demi and not really very interested in being viewed from that kind of perspective has made me stressed to wear anything that wasn't thrown together without any thought. In theory, I want to like what I wear and how I look but the idea of drawing any kind of attention to myself, especially male attention, has driven me to this point where only now am I figuring out what I like to look like for myself...

I mean ActivityPub was created to replace OStatus and import good ideas from Mastodon, partially because it has good ideas.
But yeah, I can't find the spot in the activitypub spec, but I recall there being other ways to do it.
I know I tried to use post title as CW and it didn't work and I need to use the Abstract tag to make a CW and I don't fully get it.
But yeah, it's not that Mastodon is the Evil Empire crushing us, it's just that it has weird norms and can be aggressive about enforcing things to conform to its client, but its programmer doesn't conform to the server model.
One of my worst days on here was when I boosted a private status because Mastodon makes Locked accounts not transmit followers-only statuses, so on my client I just saw it as a regular status with no markings making it private.

I mean - there's also the fact that Amazon doesn't differentiate between real and fakes.
The Amazon scam still works where you send a few fakes to amazon to sell, and then ask for the fake ones back, and get back real ones.i
And I mean - if it's up to me to spot scams - seems bad?
It's not even just third-party sellers, though Amazon definitely should screen those a lot better than they're doing. Even people ordering from Amazon itself have received fake crap or illegal copies of books. Possibly because it was in Amazon's warehouse and they blindly assumed it was the same as the real thing and therefore shipped it as one of their own.
Amazon's inability to prevent itself from selling counterfeit goods should have been its downfall. I mean, isn't that a crime? How does this not hurt Amazon? It's equally hard to believe that Amazon would have no control over what's in their warehouses. They're just intentionally sloppy in order to cut costs. This should have consequences. It would have consequences for anyone else.

Sorry, your right to vote Republican has been privatized
If you want to vote Republican you now need to pay me $30 per vote
Voting is not a natural monopoly and this will lead to increased competition and innovation in the voting Republican space
I call on the democrats to also agree that you should give me $30 before voting for them since private monopolies are great and definitely don't stifle competition

Yes, my in dream nemesis is driving up a giant hill. For some reason I have nightmares about them and so dream me is always afraid of them

Planning a scavenger hunt with the kids this morning with some treasure chests I found at the dollar store
I have 4 chests (1 bigger then the rest to end it off) and I drew a picture to point my kids in the right direction
This is the first pic I drew to start them off
Hand drawn rough image of a house with a deck with the words: Outside on the deck
