When discussing CWs please understand Mastodon is not the only fediverse project, and different projects have different philosophies and UI around CWs

Kicou reshared this.

So CWs mostly translate as subjects or titles, but are not using the title field

Friendica will collapse CWs if requested, and I think you can collapse my titles

But we also collapse statuses based on tags and keyboards rather than collapsing everything automatically
Pleroma presents them as "title" of a post (like you'd have on an email)
Part of it is that Friendica federates with other projects where CWs don't translate, like Diaspora

Though we can add them
Mastodon's biggest features is creating privacy tools that don't federate properly and are often client-side, like their locked accounts, even after the activity pub spec adds features just for them
isn't it a bit off topic?
no CW whatsoever on GNU social.
whereas trying to visit your post on your instance, to compare, the only "CW" I get is "must enable JS", so I have no clue whatsoever of what it was supposed to look like
I think Friendica does some frontend magic in frio yeah

But I didn't add any CWs, not sure how they handle ostatus
@lxo I saw a pretty good thread on this in the Friendica Support group earlier https://libranet.de/display/0b6b25a8-1363-693a-06c4-e40472583363
sorry I think I answered to the wrong thread
I mean ActivityPub was created to replace OStatus and import good ideas from Mastodon, partially because it has good ideas.

But yeah, I can't find the spot in the activitypub spec, but I recall there being other ways to do it.

I know I tried to use post title as CW and it didn't work and I need to use the Abstract tag to make a CW and I don't fully get it.

But yeah, it's not that Mastodon is the Evil Empire crushing us, it's just that it has weird norms and can be aggressive about enforcing things to conform to its client, but its programmer doesn't conform to the server model.

One of my worst days on here was when I boosted a private status because Mastodon makes Locked accounts not transmit followers-only statuses, so on my client I just saw it as a regular status with no markings making it private.
All good! Just glad you weren't mad at me!
