Me: OpenBSD because it's a no-nonsense system that just works and my computer is a tool, not a project.

Also me: I don't like the battery status reporting tools I've found, I'll make my own.

Also me: Why does all the prior art use polling? Time to look at the kernel source.

The move from "lots of aliens" scifi to "no aliens" scifi is weird.

Like, just such a difference in the kinds of optimism I can feel.

I hope one day the designer of this project finds out about HTML

I hear it's pretty cool

The review conversations were worth the price of admission.

Tomorrow I'm going to my first pride event

Over the past few years I've realized I'm both pan/bi and demi, so I guess I belong lol

@silverwizard is much more chill about it than me (in terms of nerves), so I think it'll be fun, and as he has pointed out, we'll potentially know a bunch of people who'll be there too... so not all intimidating strangers (all strangers are intimidating fyi)

I'm excited. I'm gonna wear my rainbow skirt and he's planning on wearing his rainbow vest from our wedding bc when else can you wear that?

Wish me luck, if you want to โค๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

Sales people making me go through demos are slowly making me want to write a 6000 question pre-purchase security review for them to fill out.

But that way vengeance lies.

This thing where I need to argue with a CEO hasn't happened in a few years, and I need to get better at it

I think I now have a list of things that aren't in #OpenBSD base that I can't use a computer without: git and rsync.

Of course if I want to use the computer *for* something, that's a longer list.

in reply to Dave

It's probably noteworthy that base includes tools that occupy the same space as these. The ones in base don't quite meet my needs but come close enough that they'd do if they were all that was available.

Just what I need, another computer.
At least I only have myself to blame for this one, whatever that's worth.

I always felt like Stephenson was gonna be a shithead. Mostly because Anathem. And apparently.

only kids born in 1988 know the curse of needing to change your email once you figure out the mistake you've made
in reply to Dial Tone, Busy Signal *biiip*

lol, seriously.

It's funny, I assumed everyone would just *get* the joke - but everyone except you not born in 88 has been like "Uh, my email as a kid sucked too".

So thanks for getting my terrible joke for only kids born in 88

in reply to silverwizard

terrible jokes are sometimes the best ones. ๐Ÿ˜… I love getting an eye roll or groan out of someone for my terrible jokes.

The nice thing about the pandemic is that Telehealth doesn't send you to the emergency room every call now!

The worst part is that they send you an ambulance

Does anyone else say "David Copperfield" instead of "Abra Kadabra" when doing magic tricks?
in reply to silverwizard

I see, thanks ! When did this magician live? According to wikipedia, the first known use of the word dates back to around 200 AD

Oh, look at that. Another course I need to talk to an advisor to enroll in because there's a bug in the calendar.
(Unlike the last one, this one might at least have a reasonable excuse.)

My macbook keeps whining about energy usage.
What's this iTerm2 and why does it keep using battery?!
in reply to silverwizard

Now, I'm suspecting iTerm2 to be the culprit for all my CPU usage woes and not Teams.

Apparently it was running the same subprocess which made hundreds of network calls a second for over a week? What a dumb program, who would do that?!

I'm curious how many people and in what way people care about opsec

Personally, I am pretty certain my opsec is awful and I kinda wish I could have better opsec because I am generally, clinically (sometimes) paranoid but I also, in my clearer head, think it's too much work to bother with and more than likely nobody will do anything with information I post online

I really hope I donโ€™t associate Sean & Ro's birthdays with the upsetting events that transpired this year but I imagine it's going to be such a salient memory attached to very specific dates, I really donโ€™t know how I'm going to avoid the natural association

For context, a family member I was once close to, went into palliative care and then passed. Which is it's own thing I'm not going to get into
