#Canada is having a general #election on April 28, so do vote: either at the poll stations on the day of, or during advanced voting. Or if you can't make it, register to vote by mail as early as possible.
We (some members of our household) will not be able to vote in person, so for the first time ever, we will vote by mail.
If like us you are out of town on election day and are unable to go to the polls, you can register to vote by mail here:

Canadians will be able to vote in person.
Kicou will not personally be able to vote in person
It's a small detail, but I immediately wondered if someone was spreading disinformation. You can learn a lot about alternative ways of voting at Elections Canada - elections.ca/home.aspx

Right, I realise that my post could be understood as "this election is held by mail".
I edited my original post, hoping it makes it clearer that it is our particular circumstances that make it so that we have to register to vote by mail.

in reply to Kicou • • •Thanks!
With the current level of social media efforts to influence the vote, I think we should all agree to be a little bit paranoid: we know they **are** trying to get us.

Yes, they did. Previously it had no allusion to there being any other method of voting. They also identify their advice is for people who are 'out of town' and unable to vote.
They do not, sadly, mention there are many other ways to vote if one will just be away from home on election day.
You can vote **today** using a Special Ballot proces at any open Elections Canada office. They are open 7 days a week. elections.ca/content.aspx?sectβ¦
Or vote on Advance Polling days.

in reply to Amgine • • •@Amgine It still says "We will not be able to vote in person, so for the first time ever, we will vote by mail."
NOT EDITED
@kicou
Amgine
in reply to Snowshadow π¨π¦ • • •It once said _We will not be able to vote in person but will be voting by mail._ [imperfect memory; may be slightly off]
Snowshadow π¨π¦
in reply to Amgine • • •@Amgine I copied and pasted it ! There is an important word missing.
IF you can't vote in person!.
Amgine
in reply to Snowshadow π¨π¦ • • •@Snowshadow
Indeed.
But that they edited at all is an improvement over most of the bots. Sadly, it may mean it's a live operator.
Or someone working for a contractor in a digital sweathouse operation.

in reply to Amgine • • •A bot spreading disinformation about elections on fediverse is never acceptable!!!
Amgine
in reply to Snowshadow π¨π¦ • • •@Snowshadow
The same is true of a person sharing disinformation.
But this information was not deliberately wrong. It is the same link on the Elections Canada website for mailing ballots.
It seems likely it is a more-subtle effort to cause people to mail ballots rather than participate in a safer, surer method of voting. But it could simply be someone sharing their situation, and affirming they will still vote.
And I have my elbows up for exactly the reasons you do!

I am not sure why you continue to defend this bot spreading disinformation. Are you associated with it somehow?
@kicou
Amgine

No.
I **am** however carrying 20+ years of Wikimedia history, and "Assume Good Faith."
Snowshadow π¨π¦
in reply to Amgine • • •@Amgine
In school we were taught never to assume anything, because it makes and ass out of u and me. as/u/me
"good faith" when interfering with a crucial election does not cut it!
Amgine
in reply to Snowshadow π¨π¦ • • •@Snowshadow
Totally agree with that.
But working to encourage volunteers, the vast majority of them are trying to help. A microscopic percentage of additions are intentionally malicious. If you attack someone for being mistaken, but who has screwed up the courage to make an edit, you may be destroying any chance that volunteer will be helpful in the future.
But if you attacked someone with ill intent, you have done nothing. You won't change them.

You are still defending disinformation.
I think we had better end this conversation now.

I am going to edit once more in an attempt to clarify further, but I think this conversation is borderline ridiculous.

This is mastodon; we can temporarily mute each other to avoid giving strong offense, or we can make it permanent, even a block.
And we should do that **before** we are unkind to each other.

C'est du mastodon; nous pouvons temporairement nous muter l'un l'autre pour Γ©viter de donner une forte offense, ou nous pouvons le rendre permanent, mΓͺme un bloc.

Is it misinformation to say something true even if it's only in context? What the fuck.

in reply to Kicou • • •In Canada, you are also able to vote in person at Advance Polls. These are just like regular polls (you go in person, you make your mark, and you watch the vote be registered).
If you find out the timing and location of Advance Polls in your riding, you may also be able to vote there - as well as by mail.
