Delta Chat discovery

I've always been reticent to get out of my communication tools comfort bubble. Signal has been a welcome compromise after WhatsApp was bought by Facebook, but I've never looked into XMPP, Matrix nor Delta Chat, until today.

After using it at the suggestion of @silverwizard to replace a group Twitter DM, after exactly one minute using it I'm 100% sold. The simple fact that it is entirely based on the existing email infrastructure makes it seamless. No new logins, no new remote storage to trust, cross-platform, cross-device, mobile and desktop apps are nice but they aren't even necessary to participate!

Twitter DM was necessary as one person didn't have XMPP and everyone had that, two people weren't on the Fediverse anywhere (though I think both would be sucked in via Tumblr)

But Delta Chat is a great scam because if you have their email you can just put them in the chat

@Michael Vogel To be honest, I’m not sure you're having much conversations in any other instant messengers. 🤔

I use it trivially with my family and love that

Wait - what Google issues you seeing?
My sister needs to use app passwords and can't figure that out, but she just follows the email thread

I thought you only needed one with 2FA, I dunno

Both my parents are on GSuite and figured it out (though at least one of them has cloned Unix and had code complimented by Dennis Ritchie, so probably doesn't count as average My Parents user story).

Huh, that's dumb and stupid
