Reading subsets of survey responses again. It’s fascinating when people are like β€œAlma is only good for the catalogers” or β€œFOLIO is good for the catalogers.”

My siblings in Ranganathan, I assure you that over half my survey respondents are catalogers and they would disagree.

@rowmyboat yeah the response that prompted this was Acq complaining about catalogers having FOLIO easy. But shortly before, Reference doing the same thing re Alma.

@rowmyboat this person will fight you by the bike racks.

It’s a really interesting part of reading these very human and personal responses to stuff. Even the same experience of β€œwe’re all back to square one” (I think from the same institution based on systems/dates) led one person to say β€œI feel like I’ve lost decades of competence” and another to be like β€œFINALLY as the new kid I’m not behind everyone else.”

it could be ok for the public services librarians/subject liaisons IF THEY WOULD BOTHER TO USE IT

@Ruth [β˜•οΈ πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ’»πŸ“šβœπŸ»πŸ§΅πŸͺ‘🍡] One of the scams I see so often inside Big Tech is "oh, this thing you're being forced to use is for [someone else]". If you convince everyone it's good for someone else, you can sell to everyone because you can't miss out on the Industry Standard you hate, but someone else needs it.

After a decade of an antiquated system that didn't work for anyone, but especially not acquisitions/eresources, I've been soooooo happy with Alma. Sure, the learning curve was rough and I didn't like being incompetent for a while, but now that I've developed some expertise, the workflow experience and power of the system makes so many aspects of my job easier. I have automated reports doing things it would take hours to do manually in the past!

Have switched to the subset of responses of people who are higher-level happy about new features (nearly 2x! the sad ones): absolute MVP of this batch is the person who began their textual explanation with β€œFucking being able to…”

Ah yes, I know that feel
