I miss being interested in what's new from the computer industry.

I used to read tech news and think "neat! they're spending a bunch on making something people want that's new and does things differently. cool for them!"

but companies don't do that any more. boooooooooring.

now they just make dystopian panopticon devices with bigger numbers than last year. in the same shape, same materials, different brand because brand loyalty is also a thing we prize. I hate this timeline.

Last new thing I saw, that was useful was a voice to text system, which helped me as I'd already had arthritis for a few years but as I was still not even done with elementary school, it was an equalizing aide...but that was about 30 years ago, so I'm generally onto grimacing in pain, whenever I even see something pushed as a "new, exciting tech innovation", because all I've really seen overall, aside from a little in FOSS becoming something I can at least try to use now, is everything getting worse for my #acccessibility needs.

Biggest issue ....I love the idea of open source #Linux cornels including for smartphones but if none can work on any rugged smartphone without my getting into sizably advanced tech knowledge, then they're all equally #inaccessible to me & that's among the great pains of my following things as best I can.

I don't remember exactly when it was that I I realized "I'll never get a chance to play with this, ever, so who cares."

@drwho I feel this all the time. Entire realms of technology for Not Us, oh boy.

I do still get the nice shivers over things like applied chemistry and materials science advances.

@TheGibson the only advantages any of them care about are those they can gain over their competitors, never those they can offer their customers. customers are just another resource in the calculations of the finance arm.

@thegibson there is new cool stuff out there, just not where most people will see it.

@silverwizard Do you have stairs in your house?

Hmmm, maybe I picked the wrong line from the wrong video.

@theruran As I understand it, the faster the bullshit generators go, the faster we'll get to AGI heaven. It's a natural extension of the idea of infinite monkeys sitting at typewriters. /s

yeah, I'm not all that interested in an AI powered blockchain enabled subscription based torment Nexus.
