Not sure why we bother making up fictional alien races when right on Earth a word describes an egg-like smell that roughly 1/5 of all humans don't notice or have a word for it because it's culturally admitted: zankha.

I knew her partner was Arab & what the smell was before I reached the end of the question. (Also I’ve maintained for YEARS that westerners simply cannot smell zankha even when it’s dizzying)

So... what is it? Is this something like cilantro where you need a certain gene to detect it, or is this something else?

This is very interesting to me and I feel the need to know more (which I will look into on my own, don't worry)... I wonder if this is similar to how we can experience different colours based on the names we have for colours, or sounds based on phonetic set or something else entirely 😶
