It's absolutely wild that the #SteamDeck is in a place where it can play about 90% of my game library, even if nothing is known about how well the game might run.
I can't even begin to describe what the state of gaming on the Linux desktop is even like any more. When I started using Ubuntu back in 2005, Wine barely worked. Native commercial games were an absolute chore to get running.

Now, we're at a point where I can easily play loads of indie, retro, and AAA titles with great graphics and smooth be gameplay. My desktop plays Returnal like a PS5. My handheld can do something like 40 years worth of games, plus many current titles.

Adrian Cochrane reshared this.

it's crazy. Sometimes we even see a performance boost running a windows game through Proton higher than running it on windows itself

Part that sucks is there's still a handful of titles that trigger VAC when trying to play on linux - thankfully not games i play, but it's a deal breaker for others
Gosh if that's true, Macs must be able to...oh, right fashion brand now.
@mcg Tribes was the bomb. I really wish someone would make a new one.

Probably the thing that would get me to buy a Steam Deck, would be this.
Their Heroes of Might and Magic 3 was badass!
It’s the first successful PC console. It’s after all a laptop (give and take here people) rather than a phone (the Switch).

I think it’s a good move by Valve, it was needed. It’s a buy and play device, rather than a buy, build, break, spy on you, windows stupidity, play some, reboot out of nowhere, look for viruses because they can’t build a secure system, etc.

I honestly think this is a winner, as long as they keep things up. If we see a Deck 2 we know it was a proper success.
