Replaced the IKEA desk next to my bed with something slightly more decorative…
in reply to Alexander Bochmann

…sadly, it has just a single CPU board, and not a whole lot of RAM.

And Dallas clock chips are annoying when they run out of battery, but at least they don’t usually leak and ruin boards, I think?

@Alexander Bochmann think you can put someone inside it to run as alarm clock and also enough ooph to scare your guests that it works?
in reply to silverwizard

@silverwizard Well, it totally worked when I connected it last time (two power supplies in there, and 8 disks - it's quite loud).

Also I already managed to scare off guests when I forgot to tell them about the tape drive that occiasionally runs at night in the backup PC in the neighboring room...

I've de-potted and fixed Dallas SRAM modules for 90s test equipment. The RTCs should contain 3V lithium coin cells embedded in potting compound that can be removed with hot air and a small screwdriver.

@stereo4x4 Yeah, I had a couple of them replaced in my Sparcstations at some point (see this old thread: mastodon.infra.de/@galaxis/101…), but I'll certainly trash the first couple of modules when I try to do it myself...

...on the downside, there's now this square Ikea desk that I don't have a good place for.

YES; PLEASE!!!

What's that case?

Because I'm a sucker for THICC DESKSIDE Systems!

Nice! When you get older and it proves to be to low, you can always replace it with a VAX!

Don't complain - I only have a SGI O2 and everything I try to put on top of it slides down 😑
