Yes, I have temporarily blocked a few large Lemmy and kbin instances. Additionally, I disabled everything in the admin panel in the "Automatically create a contact directory" section. And I'm starting to think that was the key point.
I have most of it disabled too. When I lifted the ban for Lemmy (via fail2ban/iptables) the system load went up from around 6 to 15 and my queue exploded again.
I think there are a lot of users and a lot of activities on Lemmy that a node has to process.
I could be wrong about the cause but since I re-established the Lemmy ban everything is completely smooth again.
