edit: ok bad example technically my own oven is currently in a failure mode where being plugged in at all turns it on indefinitely
I KNOW what's wrong and how to fix it. it's just, once you've broiled the board, you really should just replace it XD

in reply to pamela • • •I fixed a friend's gas dryer awhile back, single part, less than $20, had it in within an hour despite a bunch of battles in Injustice 2 and I'm STILL not buying my own beer, appliance repair really the way to go if you're looking for a trade
just gotta be willing to deal with a lot of dead nuisance animals and mold and spiders and stuff so ... well, there's a reason it pays

in reply to pamela • • •I still think everyone should rebuild a not-brand-new top-load washer transmission once. It's FASCINATING. So many fancy settings and cycles... and then you crack it open and it's just regular old gears. Switches, thermostats, timers. Simple as paint.
The brakes are interesting, too. Well, it's more that it's interesting how uninteresting they are.
Another fun one to look at is actually those portable spin dryers, the ones that are just spin spin spin and then you crack the lid and the brakes engage. Those are bicycle brakes!
