I own several RPGs under the theory that giving a creator a sale is one of the best ways to boost their morale

A few of them I am reading and not sure if I'll ever play

But it was worth buying because I *owned* what I like from that creator
Late-stage consumerism.
This is about using privilege, the people writing these books are less wealthy than me much of the time, this is me choosing to use my wealth to help people be validated
It wasn't a jab at you specifically, rather at the general system that makes people having to sell stuff to live, whether people use the stuff or not.
I mean, yes, though in the case of RPG writing, no one is making money

I saw the good quote earlier that it's a profession where people get into fiction writing for a more stable paycheck
