If it also functioned as a passthrough I'd back this kickstarter in a heartbeat

Yo dawg, we herd you like VGA so we put VGA in your VGA so you can VGA while you VGA

Here me out; this is the next Apple Watch, but instead of running watchOS, it just takes a feed from the Macbook that’s running in your backpack.

We’ll get macOS on Watch before we get it on iPad.

considering the 4k screens for modern ar headsets, this is probably not even that hard to do πŸ€”

these actually exist:

TinyTV 2 - Portable Retro Television with Working Rotary knobs - Load Your own Videos Easily via USB onto Your own minature TV (Brown) a.co/d/6uXhKzP

I'd buy one of those. or 3, if it was a colour epaper screen, and unplugging it would keep the last thing display. Which I guess would also happen if the server unexpectedly shut off.

And here's me absently wondering where you'd been this morning.

the sheer number of times that would have come in handy is beyond belief.

The most useful thing about it is that it works even when it’s not plugged in!

Tech Support: Hi! What's the problem you're having?

User: My monitor has no video signal, but my VGA+ SignalVerifyβ„’ 2.0 cable adaptor is getting the proper signal as its screen is working.

I'm using that same screen now for this support chat...

@Eric Peacock @NanoRaptor Shoot ... are you aware of the fact that you sent some weirdo into a really deep rabbit hole developing exactly that device into something truly awesome?

(Talking about scaling the A/D captured signal to a tiny OLED while providing plausible DDC data back to the host.... whaa ;))

in reply to Nanoraptor

the dongleonitor wasn’t too bad in the ISA era, but it became a real pain in the neck (literally) when PCI came out and the VGA connector was flipped upside down.

old me would say "that shouldn't be too hard", but current me knows better than that 🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣
in reply to Programmer Dude 🐧

@Programmer Dude 🐧 @NanoRaptor Hrr... well, providing DDC should be easy indeed..

But digitizing the analog video signals and pushing them on to a tiny OLED after scaling .... uh yeah ....... that's a rabbit hole on it's own. ;)
