I in no way disagree with the idea of alternate and more robust food systems

I really dislike the idea that only-local food is better (since - you know food-insecure areas)

But also - things like dumpstering rely on the waste of an existing system, which you want to abolish
 
This illustration is junk. There's no need to call out fertilizer/herbicide/pesticide in the industrial ag ecosystem. You need it everywhere.

repeat after me: the world starves without fertilizer, pesticides, and GMO seeds.

I don't actually fully agree with that. Our food production is *incredibly* high, way beyond our needs.

I've talked to no academic who believes we need those things to improve, and believes we could roll a lot of that back
